The success story of PWM is a prime example of change, innovation, and adaptability. Founded in 1806 as a textile company, this family-owned business reinvented itself in the 1980s and specialized in the dynamic gas station market. Today, PWM is the recognized global market leader for digital price displays.

A decisive milestone was the groundbreaking innovation of 1984: PWM was the first company in the world to enable the electronic input and display of fuel prices at gas stations. This step revolutionized the industry and laid the foundation for the company’s current success.

PWM is committed to technological excellence. Its products, from robust SMD LEDs to display systems, are tested under extreme conditions to ensure durability and reliability. They also adapt flexibly to various lighting conditions.

With the introduction of “dooh-it“, PWM also offers gas station operators a free, cross-media marketing tool. This system plays customized content on digital screens, increasing customer loyalty and promoting impulse purchases—a strategy confirmed as particularly effective by studies from GS1 Germany.

PWM thinks globally and acts internationally. The company is represented in 160 countries and is continuously expanding its reach, most recently with new activities in Brazil and the redesign of over 1,800 Cepsa gas stations in Spain.

The future at PWM is digital: With cloud control, preventive maintenance, and the use of artificial intelligence, the company continues to strive for efficiency and technological leadership. Innovation, flexibility, and cost-effectiveness remain the central drivers for a successful future.

With the introduction of PWM’s services, customers are empowered with dynamic price insights and can now know how prices fluctuate throughout the day.

The Vispiron Energy Park in Egling, Germany, integrates photovoltaic systems, energy storage, and cutting-edge e-mobility solutions. With an impressive total system capacity of 6.4 megawatts, the park not only stores solar energy but also supplies it to households and electric vehicles.

One previously overlooked aspect, however, was the lack of price transparency at the charging stations—a challenge now resolved with the introduction of the PWM price display.

Thanks to HYBDRID SMD LED digits and the cloud service, electricity prices are now visible, transparent, and flexibly adjustable with the Slim model. The display gives customers an instant overview of how prices dynamically change throughout the day.

These fluctuations are aligned with the position of the sun: On sunny days, particularly low prices can be offered, while on less sunny days, electricity from storage is used. The immediate adaptability of prices via the cloud ensures that customers always receive up-to-date information.

The impact of the new price display is clear: prominently visible and appealing prices have attracted increased attention from visitors. Since its introduction, the energy park has experienced a significant rise in visitor numbers.

Vispiron Energy Park effectively demonstrates that transparent price displays not only enhance customer satisfaction but also encourage the adoption of sustainable energy sources.

PWM GmbH & Co. KG has been awarded the prestigious ISO 14001 certification for environmental management, underscoring its commitment to sustainability and environmental protection. With this successful certification, the company pledges to continue producing in an eco-friendly manner, shaping its processes across all areas to be resource-efficient and sustainable.

ISO 14001 is an internationally recognized standard for environmental management systems, demanding high standards from companies that aim to continuously improve their environmental performance. Through a comprehensive certification process, all relevant environmental aspects of the company were analyzed to identify risks and implement measures to minimize environmental impact. With the certification, PWM now has a structured framework for sustainable environmental management encompassing production, logistics, and raw material use.

Dr. Max F. Krawinkel emphasizes PWM’s commitment to sustainable production and environmental protection: “As a global family-owned business that has addressed future challenges with innovative products for generations, responsibility toward nature and future generations is a given. We are therefore proud to have successfully obtained the ISO 14001 certification for PWM.”

PWM is already investing in innovative technologies and materials that reduce energy consumption, CO² emissions, and environmental impact. Additionally, the company relies on sustainable production methods and energy-saving measures that lay the foundation for an eco-conscious future.

For PWM, this certification is not only a seal of approval for their environmental performance but also strengthens relationships with customers and partners who increasingly value sustainable practices.

We are pleased to take responsibility for the environment together.

In the dynamic realm of European transportation, PWM’s price sign, linked to the PWM Cloud, facilitates seamless digital transformation for service stations, offering real-time price control and innovative advertising integration through “dooh-it” to redefine the industry landscape.

The European transportation landscape is currently undergoing a profound transformation, primarily driven by the increasing prevalence of electric vehicles. The widespread adoption of digital advertising spaces at service stations and rest areas also underscores the urgent need for service station operators to strategically adapt to these changes, not only to remain competitive but also to take a pioneering role.

Particularly, the value of a price sign by PWM becomes evident, as its modular structure allows existing installations to be effortlessly and effectively upgraded with power price modules or RGB boards.

Digital transformation through the cloud

Digital transformation is achieved by connecting the price sign to the PWM Cloud. With the help of the Control Gate, PWM customers can transmit electricity and fuel prices to the price sign via the cloud. Price transmission at the point of sale (POS) is still possible as all common serial interface are onboard the newly developped Control Gate. “Customers have the flexibility to integrate their own system via the PWM API interface or access the clear PWM dashboard to have the perfect overview of all their stations,” explains Esther Müller, Sales Manager at PWM. This PWM solution enables service station operators to efficiently manage their prices in real-time, seamlessly communicating between different platforms and systems. This not only contributes to improved operational efficiency but also ensures that service stations can flexibly respond to changing market conditions.

Into the future together: PWM as a partner for digital out-of-home solution with dooh-it

The shift in mobility not only presents challenges but also opens up innovative advertising opportunities, which PWM significantly advances with “dooh-it.” The flexible Content Management System (CMS) ensures the smooth integration of advertising content and prices on virtually all screens at the service station, regardless of their origin – whether it be the point of sale or the cloud. “Through the complete integration of services, information, and flexible advertising, a future emerges where gas stations not only sell fuels or electricity but also provide a comprehensive and contemporary customer experience,” emphasizes Lars Miketta, Project Manager of “dooh-it.”

Developments in electric mobility and intelligent price displays mark a crucial step in the transformation of the service station industry. Adapting to these changes not only enables long-term competitiveness but also proactive leadership in a changing market. PWM positions itself as a partner that actively shapes the future of service stations by providing innovative solutions for efficient content and information management, as well as the integration of digital out-of-home advertising. The vision of a service station as a place for comprehensive customer experiences is thus drawing closer, with PWM’s flexibility and adaptability playing a central role in this transformation.
