OUR HISTORY
A family business with tradition and over 210 years of history, which started out in the textile industry. For seven generations now, the Krawinkel family of entrepreneurs has succeeded in combining traditional manufacturing art, the latest technology and a creative spirit of innovation. In 1984 PWM was the first manufacturer to enable the electronic input of current price data. Based on many years of experience and success with electronic illuminated advertising systems, this innovation for the fuel station industry was the start of PWM’s current global market leadership.
Today, PWM is active in over 120 countries. Innovation remains the driving force of the company, which has turned the monolith into the beacon of the gas station and is now working to help shape the future of individual mobility.
1806 Foundation of the textile company Leop. Krawinkel GmbH Co.
1870 "Industrialization" at Leop. Krawinkel through the acquisition of water-powered machines in textile production.
1899 One of the largest employers in the region with three locations and over 1,000 employees.
1961-63 Diversification of the company's activities, including the purchase of a company for the manufacture of advertising lights.
1969 Closure of the embroidery plant in Bergneustadt. Foundation of Krawinkel Holding.
1984 Renaming of the company for advertising lights to PWM GmbH & Co. KG. Development and production of electronic price displays for the gas station industry.
2002 Foundation of the subsidiary PWM Inc. in Houston, Texas by Dr. Max Ferdinand Krawinkel.
2009 Development of the first IP67 protected digit.
2018 With TRACK, PWM develops the first Internet-based control system for electronic price displays at gas stations.
2020 GO DIGITAL. PWM begins the decade of digitalization.
2021 dooh-it goes online. The first web-based digital-out-of-home CMS software solution for central administration of all screens at fuel stations.
